1. Nigeria
- Solar panels are exempt from import duties and VAT.
- Classification under HS Codes 8541.42.00.00 and 8541.43.00.00 ensures a 0% duty rate.
- Policy aligns with the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) 2022-2027.
2. Ghana
- Since 1998, solar and wind energy systems are exempt from import duties and VAT.
- Components for these systems benefit from a preferential import duty of 5%.
3. Cameroon
- As of January 1, 2024, imports of PV modules, inverters, charge controllers, batteries, and cables for rooftop solar systems are exempt from customs duties.
- The exemption is valid until 2025 and aims to boost national production and renewable energy adoption.
4. Bangladesh
- Proposed Renewable Energy Policy 2025 includes exemptions from import duties and VAT on renewable energy components.
